Your site could not reach the CRM-NG sign-in relay, or the relay is not configured on this site, so the sign-in or the renewal could not run.

This article is for sites using **One-Click Setup** for Gmail or Microsoft 365 where the connection or its renewal fails with `sign-in relay could not be reached` or `relay is not configured`.

> **The error as you see it:** `One-Click Setup: the sign-in relay could not be reached` or `One-Click Setup: the relay is not configured`
>
> Shown on the mailer screen when you click Sign in, in the failed-send banner, and in **Tools → Debug Events** when a renewal fails.

## What this error means

Signing in and renewing a connection both go through the CRM-NG sign-in relay. Your site could not open a connection to it, got no answer in time, or has no relay address at all. If you were already connected, your site keeps sending with the current token until it expires, so mail usually keeps flowing for a while.

## Common causes

- **Outbound connections are blocked** by the host's firewall or a `WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL` setting that does not allow the relay host.
- **The relay address was changed** with the `CRMNG_SMTP_RELAY` constant and the new address is wrong or has no certificate.
- **The relay is down** for maintenance. This is rare and short.

## How to fix it

1. Open **Tools → Email Test** and send a test email. If the token has not expired yet, mail still works and you only need to make sure the relay is reachable before it does.
2. Check **Site Health → Info → Constants** for `WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL` and `WP_ACCESSIBLE_HOSTS`. Add the relay host to the accessible hosts if the block is on.
3. If `CRMNG_SMTP_RELAY` is defined in `wp-config.php`, open that address in a browser: a healthy relay answers `/health` with `ok`. Remove the constant to go back to the default relay.
4. Try **Sign in** again. If it still fails, switch the mode to **Your own app** and follow the manual guide for [Gmail](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/mailer-gmail/) or [Microsoft 365](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/mailer-microsoft-365/) so mail keeps going out while the relay problem is looked at.
