# Miscellaneous settings

What each switch on the Misc tab does: stop all email, hide notices and the dashboard widget, weekly summaries, optimized sending, rate limiting and uninstall.

The **Misc** tab gathers the settings that do not belong anywhere else. This article goes through each one in the order it appears. It is for administrators fine-tuning how CRM-NG SMTP behaves.

Go to **CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → Misc**. The page heading reads **Miscellaneous**. Change the switches you need, then press the save button at the bottom. You will see **Settings were successfully saved.**

## Do Not Send

Switch this on (**Stop sending all emails**) to stop your site from sending any email through WordPress. Messages are blocked before they leave your server.

Use it for:

- staging and development copies of a live site, so customers do not get test orders or reminders,
- a short pause while you fix a problem.

Things to know:

- **Test emails are allowed to be sent, regardless of this option.** You can still check your settings from **Tools → Email Test**.
- Blocked emails appear in the **Email Log** with the status **Blocked**, as long as logging is on.
- Some plugins, such as BuddyPress and Events Manager, can send email their own way rather than through WordPress's normal mail function. **Do Not Send** does not stop those. Check their documentation to switch them to normal WordPress email.
- You can fix this switch in `wp-config.php` with `CRMNG_SMTP_DO_NOT_SEND`. See [Securing settings with wp-config constants](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/secure-settings-constants/).

## Hide Announcements

**Hide plugin announcements and update details.** Switch this on if you do not want CRM-NG SMTP news or update details shown in your admin area.

## Hide Email Delivery Errors

**Hide warnings alerting of email delivery errors.** This removes the admin banner that appears when emails fail, **CRM-NG SMTP: One or more emails recently failed to send.**

> **Not for live sites:** The screen says this **is not recommended and should only be done for staging or development sites.** On a live site the banner is often the first sign that customers are not getting your emails.

If a developer has turned the banner off in code, the switch is locked on and the screen says **Email Delivery Errors were disabled using a** filter, naming it.

Hiding the banner does not stop logging or [failure alerts](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/email-alerts/).

## Hide Dashboard Widget

**Hide the CRM-NG SMTP Dashboard Widget.** Removes the **CRM-NG SMTP** box from the WordPress Dashboard for all users. See [The dashboard widget](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/dashboard-widget/).

## Disable Email Summaries

**Disable Email Summaries weekly delivery.** This switch is on by default, which means no summary is sent. Switch it **off** to receive a weekly HTML summary at the site's administration email address every Monday. Use **View Email Summary Example** to preview it. See [The weekly email summary](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/weekly-email-summary/).

## Optimize email sending

**Optimize Email Sending** sends emails in the background instead of while the visitor waits.

Normally, when a visitor submits a form or places an order, the page waits until the mail service has accepted the email. With a slow mail service, that can add a few seconds. With this switch on:

- the email is put in a queue straight away, and the page loads at once,
- a background task sends queued emails, checking about once a minute,
- emails may arrive **a minute or two** later than before.

Emails already sent from a scheduled task, from WP-CLI or from another plugin's background job are sent directly, not queued.

The queue runs on the plugin's background task system. If background tasks do not run on your site, queued emails wait. See [Scheduled actions](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/scheduled-actions/) and [Action Scheduler issues](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/action-scheduler-issues/).

You can fix this switch in `wp-config.php` with `CRMNG_SMTP_OPTIMIZED_EMAIL_SENDING_ENABLED`.

> **When to use it:** Turn it on if your forms or checkout feel slow after submitting, or your mail service is far away from your server. Leave it off if every second of delivery time matters, for example for one-time login codes.

## Uninstall CRM-NG SMTP

**Remove ALL CRM-NG SMTP data upon plugin deletion.** With this on, deleting the plugin from the **Plugins** page also removes its settings, its database tables (including the email log and debug events), and its scheduled tasks. **All settings will be unrecoverable.**

With it off, deactivating or deleting the plugin leaves your settings and log in place, ready for a reinstall. Turning it on does nothing until you actually delete the plugin. Data belonging to other plugins is never touched.
