The two weekly summary emails CRM-NG SMTP can send, what each contains, who receives them, and how to turn them on or off.

CRM-NG SMTP can email you a short report each week, so you notice problems without logging in. There are two separate summaries, switched on in different places. This article explains both. It is for site owners who want a weekly check-in on their site's email.

## The two summaries at a glance

| Local log summary | Email Summaries |
| --- | --- |
| Turned on in | Settings → Email Log: Send a weekly email summary | Settings → Misc: Disable Email Summaries (switch it off to receive them), or the dashboard widget |
| Default | Off | Off |
| Format | Short plain-text email | Designed HTML email |
| Sent to | Summary recipient, or the site's administration email | The site's administration email |
| Covers | The last 7 days from the email log | All-time total and last week's count |
| Subject | "[Site name] Weekly email summary" | "Your Weekly CRM-NG SMTP Summary for …" |

You can use either, both or neither.

## Local log summary

### What it contains

A plain-text email with five numbers for the last 7 days:

- **Total** — emails logged
- **Sent** — accepted by your mail service, including those sent by the backup
- **Failed** — emails that could not be sent
- **Unique opens** and **Unique clicks** — only above zero if tracking is on

It is built from the email log, so **Enable local email logging** should be on. With logging off, every number is zero.

### Turn it on

1. Open the log settings
Go to **CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → Email Log**.
2. Tick the box
Tick **Enabled** next to **Send a weekly email summary**.
3. Choose who receives it
Enter an address in **Summary recipient**. Leave it blank to use the site's administration email, shown greyed out in the box.
4. Save
  Press **Save Local Logging Settings**.

The summary goes out once a week, about a day after the plugin was first activated and then every seven days. It uses WordPress's scheduled tasks, so on a very quiet site it may arrive a little late. It is not added to the email log itself.

To stop it, untick the box and save.

## Email Summaries

### What it contains

A designed HTML email showing:

- **Total Emails** — the number of emails CRM-NG SMTP has sent successfully since it started counting, with the change since the week before.
- **Last week** — emails sent in the previous week, compared with the week before that.

Use **View Email Summary Example** on the **Misc** tab to preview it in your browser.

### Who receives it

The site's administration email address, set in **Settings → General** in WordPress. To send it somewhere else, change that address, or use the local log summary instead, which has its own recipient field.

### When it arrives

Every Monday at about 2 pm in your site's time zone. It is scheduled through the plugin's background task queue. See [Scheduled actions](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/scheduled-actions/).

### Turn it on or off

The setting on the **Misc** tab is worded the other way round: **Disable Email Summaries**. When the switch is on, you do not get summaries. It starts switched on.

- **To receive summaries:** go to **CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → Misc**, switch **Disable Email Summaries** off, and save.
- **From the dashboard:** the **CRM-NG SMTP** dashboard widget shows **NEW! Enable Weekly Email Summaries** while summaries are off. Tick it and you will see **Weekly Email Summaries have been enabled**.
- **To stop them:** switch **Disable Email Summaries** back on and save.

If the switch is greyed out, the setting was fixed in `wp-config.php` with the constant `CRMNG_SMTP_SUMMARY_REPORT_EMAIL_DISABLED`. See [Securing settings with wp-config constants](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/secure-settings-constants/).

## If a summary does not arrive

- Check your spam folder.
- Make sure your site can send email at all. Send a test from **Tools → Email Test**.
- Make sure WordPress scheduled tasks run. A site with very few visitors, or with WP-Cron turned off and no server cron, may not run them. See [Action Scheduler issues](https://catalystgroup.gg/docs/email-delivery/action-scheduler-issues/).
