Copy your mailer, sender and credentials from WP Mail SMTP into CRM-NG SMTP with Tools → Import, without changing the old plugin.

If your site already sends email with WP Mail SMTP, you do not have to set CRM-NG SMTP up from scratch. Tools → Import copies the old plugin's mail settings across in one click. This article explains what is copied, what is not, and what to check afterwards. It is for anyone moving a site from WP Mail SMTP to CRM-NG SMTP.

The import is copy-only

The import reads WP Mail SMTP's settings and writes a copy into CRM-NG SMTP. It never changes or deletes anything belonging to WP Mail SMTP. If you change your mind, the old plugin still has every setting it had before, and you can go back at any time.

Importing does not switch sending over, either. Who actually sends your email is decided separately by the hand-over. See Switching from another mail plugin (hand-over).

What is copied

  • Sender settings — From Email, From Name, their Force options and Return Path.
  • The chosen mailer — for example SendLayer, Brevo, Gmail or Other SMTP.
  • That mailer's settings and credentials — API keys, domains, regions, SMTP host and port, and saved sign-in tokens for mailers that use OAuth.
  • The SMTP password — WP Mail SMTP stores it encrypted. The import decrypts it with WP Mail SMTP's key and immediately re-encrypts it with CRM-NG SMTP's own key, so it is never stored in plain text.
  • General options from the old plugin's settings, such as "do not send".

What is not copied

  • Email logs, reports and debug events. CRM-NG SMTP starts its own history from the day you switch.
  • Alerts, backup connections, routing rules and email controls. Set these up on the matching CRM-NG SMTP tabs.
  • Settings defined as constants in wp-config.php. WP Mail SMTP's WPMS_ constants are not read. If you used them, add the matching CRMNG_SMTP_ constants. See Securing settings with wp-config constants.
  • Multisite network-wide mode. That choice belongs to CRM-NG SMTP itself and is never taken from the other plugin.
  • A mailer CRM-NG SMTP does not offer. If the old plugin used one, the import selects Default (none) and tells you: "The mailer "…" is not available in CRM-NG SMTP, so the default mailer was selected. Choose a mailer on the Settings tab."

Run the import

  1. Open the Import tab

Go to CRM-NG SMTP → Tools → Import. The page is titled Import from WP Mail SMTP.

  2. Read the preview

The page lists each group of settings it found and how many values each holds, plus how many saved credentials will be copied. If it says "No WP Mail SMTP settings were found on this site.", there is nothing to import.

  3. Decide whether to replace

If CRM-NG SMTP already has a mailer or credentials saved, a box appears: Replace the mail settings CRM-NG SMTP already has. Tick it to overwrite them. Leave it unticked and the import stops, so you never lose settings by accident.

  4. Import

Click Import from WP Mail SMTP. You should see "Settings imported."

  5. Review the General tab

Open CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → General and check the sender and mailer look right.

  6. Send a test

Go to CRM-NG SMTP → Tools → Email Test and send one. See Sending a test email.

The redirect address and Reconnect

After a successful import, the page shows a redirect address with a Copy button and this line:

Add this address to your Google/Microsoft app before you ever press Reconnect; sending works without it.

Here is why. Mailers that sign in with OAuth (Google, for example) only send the sign-in back to addresses you have listed in your app at the provider. CRM-NG SMTP uses its own return address, which is different from WP Mail SMTP's. Your copied tokens keep working, so sending carries on as normal. But if you ever disconnect and reconnect the account, the provider will refuse the new sign-in unless this address is in your app's list of allowed redirect addresses.

So, while it is in front of you: click Copy, open your app in the Google Cloud Console (or Microsoft Entra), and add the address alongside the old one. See Google Workspace / Gmail.

If the password cannot be decrypted

If you see "The saved SMTP password cannot be decrypted, so nothing can be imported. Set the mailer up on the Settings tab instead.", WP Mail SMTP's encryption key is missing or has changed (for example after a site migration). Nothing was copied. Enter the mailer settings by hand on the General tab; it takes a few minutes. See Setting up CRM-NG SMTP in five minutes.

Who can import

You need permission to change CRM-NG SMTP's settings, normally an administrator. On a multisite network with network-wide settings, only a network administrator can import.
