Connect CRM-NG SMTP to Elastic Email with an API key that can send email and a validated sending domain.

This guide shows you how to send your WordPress email through Elastic Email, a service for marketing and transactional mail. It suits businesses that want low-cost sending with campaign tools on the side. Elastic Email has a free option for trying it out, but it can be limited to sending to your own address; check its site for the current terms.

The Elastic Email mailer sends through Elastic Email's API with an API key. You also validate your sending domain, which Elastic Email requires before it sends to anyone else.

Before you start

  • An Elastic Email account (sign up at https://www.elasticemail.com/).
  • A domain you control, with access to its DNS records.
  • Administrator access to your WordPress site.

Step 1: Add and validate your domain

  1. Sign in to Elastic Email

Go to https://app.elasticemail.com/ and sign in.

  2. Open Domains

Open Settings → Domains (look for Add domain or Sender domains).

  3. Add your domain

Enter the domain you will send from.

  4. Publish the records

Elastic Email lists records for SPF, DKIM, a tracking CNAME and DMARC. Add them at your DNS provider exactly as shown.

  5. Verify

Return and press the verify button next to each record. The domain needs at least SPF and DKIM verified before it counts as validated.

See Adding DNS records if you are new to DNS.

Step 2: Create an API key

  1. Open API key management

Open Settings → Manage API Keys (the plugin's Get API Key link goes to https://app.elasticemail.com/api/settings/manage-api) and choose Create.

  2. Name it

Use a name that identifies the site.

  3. Set access

Choose custom access and allow sending email (look for Send Email or "Email send"). Full access also works but grants more than the site needs.

  4. Check expiry and IP limits

Elastic Email lets you set an expiry date and limit a key to certain IP addresses. If you set an expiry, note it; if you limit IPs, include your web server's address.

  5. Copy the key

Create the key and copy it now. Elastic Email shows it once.

Step 3: Connect in CRM-NG SMTP

  1. Choose the mailer

In WordPress, open CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → General and set Mailer to Elastic Email.

  2. Paste the key

Paste the key into API Key.

  3. Set the sender

Set From Email to an address on your validated domain and set From Name. Tick Force From Email so other plugins cannot use another domain.

  4. Save

    Press Save Settings.

Send a test email

Open CRM-NG SMTP → Tools → Email Test, enter your address in Send To, and press Send Email. If you are on a limited free plan, send to the address you signed up with. Elastic Email's reports or activity page shows the result. See Sending a test email.
