Read the email log list, understand each status, and open an entry to see its details, stored body, error and resend options.

This article explains the list of emails on the Email Log tab and the detail page behind each entry. It is for anyone checking whether a particular email went out, or working out why one failed.

To see entries, logging must be on. See Setting up the email log.

Open the log

Go to CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → Email Log and scroll past the settings. The newest email is at the top. The list shows 25 emails per page, with page links underneath.

The columns

Column What it shows
Date When the email was handed to CRM-NG SMTP, in your site's time zone.
Status What happened to it. See the next section.
To The main recipients. CC and BCC addresses are recorded but not shown here.
Subject The subject line, or (no subject). Click it to open the entry.
Mailer The mailer that handled the email, by its short name, such as sendgrid or smtp.
Unique opens / clicks Opens and clicks counted once per device and link. Shows 0 / 0 when tracking is off.

If nothing matches, you will see No matching emails have been logged.

What each status means

Status Meaning
Pending CRM-NG SMTP recorded the email and started sending, but no result has come back yet.
Sent The mailer accepted the email.
Sent-backup The main mailer failed and the backup SMTP transport sent the email instead.
Failed The mailer refused the email or could not be reached. The error is saved.
Blocked The email was stopped on purpose by Do Not Send on the Misc tab. It never left your site.

Sent is not the same as delivered

Sent means your mail service took the message. It does not prove it reached the inbox. The recipient's server can still bounce it or file it as spam. See Understanding delivery status.

A message that stays Pending usually means the page request ended before the mailer answered, for example because PHP hit a time limit. If you see many of these, check Debug events.

The Mailer column shows smtp-backup-route when a Smart Routing rule sent the message through the backup server.

Open an entry

Click the subject of any email. The detail view replaces the list and shows:

  • Status — as above.
  • From — the sending address actually used.
  • To — all main recipients.
  • Delivery status — what your mail service later reported, such as delivered or bounced. It reads Not reported until a delivery webhook updates it.
  • Error — the full error text for failed emails. For Sent-backup emails it starts with "Primary failed:" and shows why the main mailer gave up.
  • Stored body — the message text, if Store email bodies and headers was on when the email was sent. HTML is shown as code, not rendered.
  • Stored attachments — file names of any stored attachments.

Use Back to email log to return to the list.

Resend an email

Resend email appears only when a body was stored. It sends the same subject, body and From address to the same main recipients, with any stored attachments, through your current mailer settings. The resend is logged as a new entry. CC and BCC recipients and custom headers are not repeated.

Resend after a fix

When emails failed because of a wrong password or an expired key, fix the mailer settings first, send a test from Tools → Email Test, then resend the failed entries one by one.

Delete an entry

Delete log removes the entry, its stored attachments and its tracking records. You are asked to confirm. To delete many at once, see Retention and deleting log entries.
