What the two CRM-NG SMTP widgets on the WordPress Dashboard show, how to use the email type and timespan menus, and how to hide them.

CRM-NG SMTP adds email figures to your WordPress Dashboard, the first screen you see after logging in. This article explains what each widget shows and how to hide them. It is for administrators who want a quick look at their site's email without opening the plugin.

Only users who can manage CRM-NG SMTP settings see these widgets. Editors, authors and customers do not.

Two widgets

You may see two boxes:

Widget title Shows Data source
CRM-NG SMTP An all-time count of emails sent A simple counter kept by the plugin
Email Delivery — Last 7 Days Total, sent, failed, unique opens and unique clicks for the past week Your local email log

The CRM-NG SMTP widget is placed at the top of the Dashboard when it first appears. You can drag either widget anywhere, as with any WordPress Dashboard box.

The CRM-NG SMTP widget

The figures

The main figure reads, for example, 152 total. It is the number of emails CRM-NG SMTP has sent successfully since it started counting.

Next to it are boxes for Confirmed, Unconfirmed and Failed emails. In this version they show N/A. When your mailer has no delivery confirmation, the layout changes to a single Sent box instead of confirmed and unconfirmed. For real sent and failed counts, use the Email Delivery — Last 7 Days widget or the Email reports screen.

Email type and timespan menus

Two menus sit at the top of the widget:

  • Select email type — starts at All Emails. The other choices (Confirmed Emails, Unconfirmed Emails, Failed Emails, or Sent Emails) are shown greyed out and cannot be picked in this version.
  • Select timespan — starts at All Time. The Last 7 days, Last 14 days and Last 30 days choices are also greyed out.

Widget settings

The gear button opens two preferences, saved for your user only:

  • Graph Style — Bar or Line.
  • Color Scheme — CRM-NG SMTP or WordPress.

Press Save Changes to keep them.

Weekly summary prompt

While the weekly Email Summaries are off, the widget shows NEW! Enable Weekly Email Summaries with a View Example link. Tick the box to switch summaries on. You will see Weekly Email Summaries have been enabled. Press the small cross to hide the prompt for your user without enabling anything. See The weekly email summary.

The Email Delivery — Last 7 Days widget

This widget reads your local email log and shows two lines, for example:

48 total 46 sent 2 failed 31 unique opens 9 unique clicks

  • Sent includes emails sent by the backup SMTP transport.
  • Opens and clicks stay at zero unless tracking is on. See Open and click tracking.
  • If logging is off, or entries are older than your retention period, they are not counted.

When failed is above zero, go to CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → Email Log, filter by Failed, and read the errors.

Hiding the widgets

Hide the CRM-NG SMTP widget for everyone

Go to CRM-NG SMTP → Settings → Misc, switch on Hide Dashboard Widget (Hide the CRM-NG SMTP Dashboard Widget.) and save. This removes it for every user.

Hide either widget just for you

On the Dashboard, open Screen Options at the top right and untick the widget's name. This only affects your own account, and you can tick it again at any time. Use this for the Email Delivery — Last 7 Days widget, which the Misc setting does not hide.
